ABOUT SYDNEY GLASS
From a double garage in Bankstown to over six decades of glass expertise.
Sydney Glass was founded in 1958 by Ted and Milli Oberg, beginning from a double garage in Bankstown and quickly establishing a reputation for quality workmanship and reliable service.
What began as a small glazing operation steadily expanded throughout Sydney, eventually growing into one of the region's most respected glass processing and supply businesses.
Today, the company continues under the leadership of Harvey Oberg, carrying forward more than 65 years of family knowledge, innovation and commitment to customer service.
OUR TIMELINE
The evolution of Sydney Glass.
The Beginning
Sydney Glass begins from a double garage in Bankstown, with Ted and Milli Oberg establishing the business through glazing work and building a reputation for reliable craftsmanship.
Fairford Road
The business moves into a rented Fairford Road property, continuing glazing work across Sydney as demand and capabilities grow.
Glass Innovation
Sydney Glass pioneers all-glass fish tanks using silicone rather than traditional metal frames, supplying customers throughout Australia.
Fairford Road Purchased
The property adjoining Fairford Road is purchased, securing a stronger foundation for Sydney Glass and supporting the company’s next stage of growth.
30 Short Street
Sydney Glass purchases number 30 Short Street, previously known as the Milk Depot and owned by Dairy Farmers. The site later becomes an important part of the company’s Bankstown operations.
Sydney’s First Waterjet
An additional shed is built adjacent to number 30 Short Street to house Sydney’s first waterjet, expanding the company’s glass cutting and processing capabilities.
Toughening Furnace Era
After purchasing the former Pauls Hardware building in 1995, Sydney Glass installs its first toughening furnace in 1997, marking a major milestone in in-house processing.
Bluepoint Acquisition
Sydney Glass purchases the building between its existing sites, known as Bluepoint. Today, this building is central to the company’s restructure, improving glass flow, simplifying operations and increasing service offering.
Jumbo Furnace Expansion
A building purchased in 2009 allows Sydney Glass to install its jumbo furnace in 2011, increasing capacity for large-format glass processing and future commercial projects.
New Generation Leadership
Harvey Oberg steps into the role of Managing Director, continuing the family tradition while leading Sydney Glass into its next stage of growth.
OUR LEGACY
A family business built on trust, service and innovation.
For more than six decades, Sydney Glass has remained a family-owned business with a hands-on approach to glass supply, processing and customer service.
From its early glazing work in Bankstown to supplying aluminium fabricators, trade customers, commercial projects and high-end residential work, the business has continued to evolve while staying true to its original values.
Today, Sydney Glass combines generations of knowledge with modern capability, supporting homeowners, builders, glaziers, shopfitters and commercial clients across Sydney.
