Toughening

Glass toughening (also known as tempering) provides improved strength, durability and safety compared to regular glass. The toughening process subjects the glass to high heat and then cooled rapidly, which makes it more resistant to breakage and more capable of withstanding stress and impacts.

Sydney Glass is proud to have one of the largest glass toughening furnaces in the Southern Hemisphere, allowing us to offer some of the largest range of toughened glass sizes available in the Australian market. Our furnace can handle glass up to 3.3m x 6m, enabling us to provide our customers with a comprehensive range of glass solutions for both commercial and residential applications.

Heat Soaking

Heat soaking is a process that strengthens toughened glass by identifying and eliminating any potential weakness in the glass.

This is achieved by placing toughened glass panels in a chamber and heating them to a high temperature, causing any unstable glass to shatter.

The remaining glass can then be used with the assurance that it is less likely to break spontaneously in the future, giving our customers peace of mind and providing added safety and security to buildings and installations.

Please note: We do not provide glass installation services.
